It's the biggest red carpet night of the year after the Oscars. It attracts a feury of A Listers. It's The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala. This years opening is the exhibition "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy." The annual gala was held Monday May 5th.
Right out the gate was Katie Holmes in this wild red vintage Giorgio Armani number with bright blue shoes. It's absolutely stunning. Even if it isn't your style you have to admit it's like nothing you've ever seen before. Blake Lively in Ralph Lauren with adorable matching gloves and Emmy Rossum looking lovely in black and white.
Mischa Barton wasn't the only one glittering in gold. Mary Kate, who came with sis Ashley, was absolutely dripping in a gold wrap and tie dress.
George Clooney & girlfriend Sarah Larson looking ever so elegant while Dita Von Teese kept to her burlesque feather frocks. And Anna Wintour (editor of Vogue) is wearing a one of a kind Chanel. Which is good b/c we don't need two of those running around.
Gisele Bundchen is wearing a Versace gown that seems to perfectly fitted it could have grown out of her own body. One of my favorite dresses of the night is this purple ruffle number on Eva Longoria. It's a masterpiece. Lake Bell kept with the superhero theme. She looks ready to concure Gotham.
My beloved Maggie Gyllenhaal is, as always, wonderfully unique. Christina Ricci in pink Givenchy and Diane Kruger spiced up a silver cocktail dress with pink Jimmy Choo's.
JLo looks fine but nothing special. She did come with that husband of hers but no one wants to look at that. A curvacious Julia Roberts with Giorgio Armani. And, between you and me, Kimora Lee Simmons can dress up all she wants. She continues to look more like an old Hawaiian man every day.
